Selling Your Files with OpenDrive

There are many cloud storage providers out there that allow you to share your files with others, and that can be done in many different ways, whether it be sending pictures of the children to grandma, displaying an image on a web page, forum or social media, or sharing a document between co-workers. This is fine if you wish to share your files in the regular fashion, but what if you have created something unique and original and want to sell it?

Very few services available today, if any, allow you to charge a price for the files you are sharing. With OpenDrive, however, it is possible to quickly and easily upload a file and define a price that needs to be paid to allow downloading of that file. We will show you how simple it is to set up.

First, you will need a PayPal account. OpenDrive only allows payments for files to be collected through PayPal at this time. Setting up a PayPal account, however, is quick and easy and only takes minutes. If you already have a PayPal account that can receive funds, you can skip this step.

Once this step is complete, you will need to configure your OpenDrive account to accept payments for your file. This is done by accessing your account settings through the OpenDrive website. Once you are logged into your account, go to Settings > My Profile and scroll down to the bottom of the page.

Under PayPal Account Email, you will see your email address that you used to register your OpenDrive account. This is set by default and will not affect anything if you do not have a PayPal account or you do not wish to sell files. If your PayPal account is also registered to that email address, you are already set and the rest of this step can be skipped. If you have a different PayPal email address, simply click the email address, change it to the one you use for your PayPal account, and then click the green check mark to confirm the change.

Next, you will need a file to sell. Once you have uploaded the file, you will need to configure its properties to not only define a price charged for the file but also to secure it from unauthorized downloads. To do this, start by right clicking the file or clicking the down arrow on its icon and then select Properties from the menu that appears.

Once the Properties window appears, there are three simple things that will need to be done to configure your file for sale:

  1. Set the file’s permissions to Private. This disables downloading of the file without permission.
  2. Un-check the box next to Edit File Online to disable online file editing.
  3. Next to File Price, click the radio button next to the text box and then enter the price, in US dollars, that you wish to charge for the file.

Click save changes and your file is now available for sale. When someone clicks the link to the file, they will be sent to a PayPal check-out page where they can purchase the download. Once they secure payment, they will be able to download the file and the price you charge will be deposited to your PayPal account.

If you are looking for a simple but effective method of selling your files, one that eliminates the hassles of setting up online stores and merchant accounts and paying extra fees for those services, OpenDrive has you covered. For no extra charge, you can create an excellent source of extra income for your hard work and talent.
